Restaurant review: Cosmic Café in Dallas
In a neighborhood known for its beefcake, there’s a little vegetarian oasis amidst the chaos. Just a few blocks from the shiny disco balls, two-steppin’ cowboys and drag-queen power ballads of Cedar Springs is one of our favorite haunts. And it’s better than ever.
Cosmic Café has long been one of the top vegetarian spots in town (even if the full list of such restaurants can be counted on one hand), but the fresh food, friendly service and downright peaceful vibe make it an ideal spot for a relaxing meal during this hectic time of year.
Our favorites, potato-and-pea Samosas and Spinach Enchiladas never cease to satisfy in a who-needs-beef sorta way.
But our new discovery on a recent visit is the delectable Cosmic Stir. This cornucopia of vegetables includes fresh asparagus, broccoli, bell peppers, onions, carrots, squash, and snow peas with ginger and tofu served over basmati rice alongside a great green salad.
Just this dish alone is enough to make you regular. Oops, we mean “a regular.”
Don’t forget to check out the vegan desserts, too. As Marie Antoinette might’ve said had she known better, “Let them eat eggless cake!”

I am glad to see they are open again after the fire they had, and this building has always been a fixture of the Old Oak Law area, and should become an offical Lee Park Museum of sorts from the 60's, one of the few surviving buildings on the strip, great organic food and I love the feeling and vibes.....A/T, Cool Oak Lawn Tourist.

In 1979, I used to party in the upstairs rooms of that building before it was a restaurant. Some lady named "Peaches" lived up there. Good vegan food to be had there!

Ive been to Cosmic a couple of times and I wasnt really impressed. I prefer Spiral Diner off of Beckley, as they have a much better menu of items and less attitude when you ask them whats in the food.

The overall vibe on that place is what Oak Lawn was about in the first place, beginning in the 1920's, and that was quite a strip when Car Culture came about, while the folks who did not what to live downtown lived in the area, such a place has had a sense of Hindu Swami Freaky diffrent feeling,Dr Cossest Faust Newton owner of the first J.F.K museum, had a Boat built in her backyard in Highland Park...and a second club there on the strip in the 1950s.. and lets not forget the Satroi House of the Lee Park days, then again little is left of a once very Ecentric area..A/T, Observer of a funky vibe.
