Piano duo Anderson & Roe to replace Gabriela Montero for October 7 Cliburn at the Kimbell concert
Cliburn at the Modern: An Evening with Sebastian Currier will move to November 20
The Van Cliburn Foundation has announced that the Anderson & Roe Concert Piano Duo will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7, for Cliburn at the Kimbell, replacing Gabriela Montero.
Gabriela Montero is indisposed and has had to cancel all engagements for the next month, including her European tour dates.
Cliburn at the Modern: An Evening with Sebastian Currier has been rescheduled for Thursday, November 20 (moved from the 19th) due to an unforeseen scheduling conflict involving key musical personnel.
Known for their adrenalized performances, innovative programming, original compositions, and refined artistry, the Anderson & Roe piano duo has earned a reputation as "Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers transposed from the dance floor to the keyboard," (Southampton Press).
Cliburn Foundation president Richard Rodzinski comments on the duo: "Elizabeth and Greg have formed what is perhaps the most thrilling young duo piano team performing today. Their musicianship and style are quintessentially of our time, ideally suited to the concert hall and a cutting-edge Internet viewing experience. They offer the kind of hip classical concerts that I imagine we'll see more and more of in the near future."
The duo's program for the evening will feature a diverse selection of music, including Brahms' Hungarian Dance, Saint-Saens' Dance macabre, selections from Souvenirs by Samuel Barber, Piazzolla's Libertango, and an original composition based on Strauss' Blue Danube Waltz.
Anderson & Roe's mission includes the goal "...to free the world from the constraints of sleep-inducing concerts."
Elizabeth Joy Roe was a much-admired participant at the Twelfth Cliburn Competition, and has since returned as a guest artist in area public schools with the Cliburn's Musical Awakenings education program. She holds a graduate degree in piano from the Juilliard School.
