John Paul II High School holds annual charity golf tournament
This past Monday, September 29, 2008, John Paul II High School hosted its 4th Annual JPII Golf Classic at Gleneagles Country Club in Plano. With great weather cooperation and record participant registration, JPII HS was able to raise over $90,000 from this event that benefits the Student Financial Aid Fund.
The current 2008–09 enrollment at JPII HS currently stands at 640 students – nearly doubling in size from its opening day in August 2005. As the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at JPII HS, Dr. Barbara Savage notes, “Monies that are netted on the golf tournament are of vital importance to meeting the financial needs of our students. Although we cannot meet all of the needs 100%, through fundraisers like the annual golf tournament, we are able to accommodate students whose families are experiencing these very difficult economic times. The expense of a Catholic school education is countered by the quality of the education and through the generosity of our friends and supporters; together we can make a difference in life of a student.”
The administration of John Paul II High School considers this annual golf tournament a huge event not only from a fundraising aspect but also from a community-building aspect. Because the event is open to the surrounding community, it gives JPII HS the opportunity to reach out and bring people together in an environment that recognizes the importance of education.
John Paul II High School, in connection with the generosity of their donors, established the annual golf classic tradition and the financial aid fund in an effort to serve underprivileged students and their families who seek a quality, Catholic education as a means to instill ethics, leadership, and morality in service to their surrounding community. This school year, JPII HS gave out $323,000 in financial aid to qualified students.
