Video: Sarah Palin protest in Dallas, 10/3/08
Editor's note: The staff of the Dallas Peace Center was on hand at the Sarah Palin protest/supportfest (depending on your perspective), taking pictures and video, scored with, of course, the theme song from Dallas. My favorite part? When one woman disputes the idea that just because a person has a vagina means they're a feminist. Well, then.

Hmmm, how about the next one who implies that just because you have a vagina, you're supposed to believe a certain way? Some people's definition of feminism is mighty narrow.
Oh, and by the way, Obama is against gay marriage as well.

Same old tired cliche protests from the 60s that didn't work then and won't work now.

xdavidwattsx says:
I'd argue the protests from the 60's were pretty effective turning a nation against a losing war and finally getting Washington to pull the plug on it.
The day we lose the right to protest is the day freedom gets hit by a bus.

'The right to protest'
Doesn't just mean standing on a sidewalk with a sign and shouting meaningless nonsense.

TravisRex, yeah - I have a morbid curiosity about the real numbers. It can't be THAT overwhelming if all the shots I've seen have the front door of the hotel in them and all from the opposite sidewalk - it's not like there's anywhere to "assemble" down there and it looked like the street was pretty clear ;o)

Frankly, I have more interest in what went on inside at the event than the protest/support outside. I was just trying to figure out what a $1000 plate of food would look like. I imagine it went something like this..
Appetizer: Baby Seal Carpacio in a light crude reduction.
Substitute Moose Stew, $500 extra.
Main Course: Braised Camel Spider served over a bed of nails and smothered in a creamy Rendition sauce.
Desert: Baked Alaska, AKA The Palin Family Reunion.

I attended the event. 1300 in attendance. Standing room only. Seating available for 1100. Chicken ceaser salad. We were there to hear her, not eat fine food.

Clay - I hear your evil wheels turning:
So by anyone's inflated reckoning and on a week of a trillion dollar stock market plunge, the number of people that cared enough to picket either way pro or con, were outnumbered by people that had $1000 to burn.
Wow. I'm in the wrong business.

It's not so much the $1000 to burn that gets me. It's that someone paid $1000 to hear an undereducated idiot who has no real understanding of public policy talk about GOP themes.

Sounds like xdwx is still mad about that last fundraiser he had, where instead of $1000 donations the only people who showed up were guys trying to sell free copies of The Quick.

Do you want to talk about Obama's $28,500 per seat fundraiser with Babs after the flood in Galveston? I did not think so.

DC says:
I fail to see the problem with that since McCain held a fundraiser at the Intercontinental in Miami in the same week with a $50k a plate tag. At the same time his campaign cut a $1.3M check to a company that has ties to 2004 election money 'wandering.' It does sound much more official to refuse to use contractions.

I think what I like best is how these candidates, "The Maverick" and "The Optimist" have inspired people to get past the incessant name-calling and belittling of each other and move ahead straight to the productive nit-picking of campaign fundraising stunts.
It's magical. Vote Snoopy.

Thank God for Checks and Balances built into our country's governing structure. The issues are to hold all our representatives accountable from the state to national level.
Regardless of who is elected, We are facing the most serious economic situation since the Depression (yeah, we're in the sh*tter, folks!) and the person elected to the Oval Office is gonna have one hell of a go ‘round!

This is so depressing. Sadly, I am considering not even voting this time around as I cannot seem to make up my mind between sucks and sucks. I may not even update my address in the registry. We are screwed either way it goes.

Sarah Palin may not be a good candidate for people who like freedom of choice in their personal lives (like Americans) but she is great if you are a Joe-6-Pack who likes hunting Mooses or Russians. And I know that's what Dallas is all about. Yippee-Kai-Yay!
