UPDATED: Dallas ISD to pass out pink slips next week
In order to save millions of dollars, Dallas ISD decided Thursday to move forward with layoffs. The decision as to who goes won't be easy, however, the first teachers to be laid off will be those who aren't yet certified or have the state license to teach. The district will also be looking at the teachers' effectiveness and tenure will possibly play a role in who stays and who goes. The layoffs are expected to start this week.
UPDATE: Non-contract workers will get the axe on October 15. All the layoffs will save the district about $30 million, with another $38 million to come from non-personnel cuts. Here's the kicker though. Despite the hooplah to save money, the district will still be down $15 million.
