Last year it was “The Bride of It Came From Dallas – 3rd Time’s the Charm."
This year, the Dallas Producers Association (DPA) is calling it "Revenge of It Came From Dallas - The Show Goes 4th," but the goal is the same: to have a kaboodle of fun celebrating DFW moving picture industry professionals and the entertaining and profitable work they've been churning out for lo these many years.
The festivities will include a roast of local high profile industry figures; specially-produced movie clip, trailer and commercial programs (including a 3-D segment); and the evening's only "serious" event: presentation of the DPA Film Pioneer Award, to Rod Keitz and Larry Herndon of Keitz and Herndon Studios. (The Film Pioneer Award is presented in recognition of outstanding contributions to advancing the region's moving image industry.)
Hosting the event once again will be the inimitable, endemic, indefatigable Gordon K. Smith. Joining Gordon as co-host will be improv artist Bob Coonrod (of “4 Out of 5 Doctors” and “Lone Star Comedy” fame). This should give you an idea of the level of seriousness that will be on display during the evening.
The new(ish) Dallas Studio Movie Grill (at Royal and Central) will host the event, starting at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 16. As in prior years, the public is invited and there is no admission fee, but note that this IS, after all, a fundraiser for DPA and the Texas Motion Picture Alliance (TXMPA), whose mission is to sponsor incentive packages designed to bring more film productions to Texas - so your $10 (OR GREATER!) donation will be enormously appreciated - and put to good use.
For advance reservations and additional information, go here. Contact Chad Rosga (at 214-972-1940) to become an event sponsor.
(PSST: inside informants tell us that the DPA is planning something special for Dec. 2 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their organization. So you might want to keep that evening freed up.)
