DFW Football Follow-up: SMU and UNT fall
The University of North Texas Mean Green fell behind by 28 points at halftime and failed to rally falling to the Florida International University Golden Panthers 42-10 at Fouts Field in Denton, TX. In Orlando, FL, the Southern Methodist University Mustangs were unable to overcome four turnovers falling the University of Central Florida Knights 31-17.
UNT
FIU’s T. Y. Hilton had touchdown catches of 65 and 73 yards and the Panthers blocked a UNT punt and returned it for a touchdown as the Panthers opened up a 28 point halftime advantage. Mean Green quarterback Giovanni Vizza was 32 of 46 for 274 yards passing but had 3 interceptions. UNT receiver Casey Fitzgerald finished the game with 120 yards receiving on 10 catches. Vizza was hurried all night as the FIU front four was constantly getting pressure on the Sophomore quarterback. Panther quarterback Paul McCall was 11 of 19 for 234 yards and four touchdowns while Hilton had three reception for 145 yards. Next week the Mean Green host the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin Cajun in another Sun Belt Conference game.
SMU
In Orlando, UCF broke a 10-10 tie in the third quarter with two straight touchdowns an held on for the victory. Mustang quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell was 29 of 45 for 351 yards passing and a touchdown, but he threw three interceptions. For the year, the true Freshman quarterback has 15 interceptions in six games. Receiver Aldrick Robinson led all receivers with 210 yards receiving on 10 catches for the Mustangs including a 94 yard touchdown reception. The Mustangs will try again next week to get a win as they return to Dallas to host the high octane “hurry-up-no-huddle” spread attack of the Tulsa Golden Hurricane.

Man, what is UP with these two teams and their programs? I thought UNT was going to really come around with the SL Caroll coach and his son, but man, this is getting bad.
SMU should aim lower. NCAA Div 2 or 1AA or even 1AAA. Return to academics, Puhlease.
