Fort Worth to host Western Heritage Trail Drive Celebration

North Texas nonprofit Score A Goal In The Classroom School Incentive Program and the Fort Worth Cowtown Commission have set a date for the 2009 Western Heritage Trail Drive Celebration: Saturday, Jan. 17. The event will take place immediately following the annual Stock Show Rodeo Parade at noon at the Two City Place parking lot on the corner of Belknap, Taylor and Weatherford streets.

The celebration is designed to educate the public on the city’s rich Western heritage and its values. This free, fun family event tells the story of Fort Worth's heritage from 1849 to the present. Featured events include performances by national recording artists, authentic Native American folk dancing, chuck wagon cooking, Western storytelling and more.

In addition, Score A Goal In The Classroom and the Cowtown Committee will honor Pam Minick with the Fort Worth Cowtown Legend Award and John Merrill with the Western Heritage Trail Boss Award. A former Miss Rodeo America, Ms. Minick is a rodeo champion and the marketing director of Billy Bob’s Texas, located in the Fort Worth Stockyards. Mr. Merrill, the grandson of a trail driver, is a third-generation rancher and the former director of TCU’s Ranch Management Program.

Score A Goal In The Classroom is a 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt educational incentive program designed to encourage and motivate students, kindergarten through 12th grade, with positive rewards and an opportunity to raise grades, achieve better attendance and become more responsible citizens.
