Sprint’s XOHM Wi-Max service reportedly stealth launched in DFW area
Now you can get PegNewsy goodness anywhere in the area.
DALLAS Engadget reports that Sprint's XOHM WiMax service has quietly launched in Dallas as well as several other cities that had been announced for the second wave of rollout of the mobile broadband service. Baltimore was the first city launched, and word is that the network is soft-launched (without support, but functional) in Chicago, Boston, Dallas, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and Northern Virginia.
WiMax is a net of broadband interwebs connectivity that covers an entire metro area. Access requires a special modem or laptop card and promises speeds of 2-4Mbps downstream and 1-2Mbps upstream.
Local Sprint stores are not yet selling the cards, so you may need to find a friend in Baltimore or order online. But this is a good sign that the service is close to launch.
