On Oct. 17, Max Payne will show up on movie screens across the country. Judging by its trailer, the film shapes up to be a pretty nicely-done Matrix-flavored flick with a lot of SFX action. 'Course, it does derive from a video game, so deep thoughts are probably out.
Meanwhile, on Tues. evening (Oct. 7) at 5:00 p.m., Dallasites (and those driving in from the 'burbs) will have a chance to see two of the film's stars, Mark Wahlberg and Chris Bridges (a.k.a. Ludacris) up close and more-or-less personal at The Door (a.k.a. the former Gypsy Tea Room) at 2513 Main St. (a.k.a. Deep Ellum).
Wahlberg and Ludacris will strut their stuff on the red carpet set up in their honor, while local graffiti artists Frank Campagna, Sergio Gracia and Luke Harden rub elbows awaiting the unveiling of some special Max Payne-inspired murals (done by Frank and Sergio, says this press release).

Bill Holston says:
Cool, I wouldn't refer to Sergio and Frank as 'grafitti artists.' There art is much broader than that. I think Frank's really more of a muralist, who did the murals for Gypsy Tea Room, now House of Blues and is an owner of Kettle Gallery. Sergio has shown work all over. I don't know Luke.
Thanks for as always promoting local Dallas arts events!

Bill - absolutely. As you know, we've been following Frank's exploits for a while now. I took the "graffiti artist" descriptor from the press release. (My mistake.)

Travis Bush says:
I wonder if those artists are the same ones that were doing Max Payne stuff on the side of the liquor store downtown? I saw them yesterday on Lamar right by the West End train station.

FRANK ...is up to some good pranks.... if he can recall, in the old Jay Largo days, making plaster and clay cowboys.....that was the beginning of a Deep Elm artist in an old house, by the quad, over off Cedar Springs...Time to branch out again, and continue the wall thing..until then..
