City of Arlington wants citizens to know about digital TV conversion

... so they can watch western civilization crumble before their eyes in high resolution and vivid color.

Sure, the world as we know it is going to Hell in a handcart, but at least - as the City of Arlington is reminding its citizenry - we'll soon be seeing those events documented exclusively with improved picture and sound quality.

That's because the U.S. Federal Government - you know, the one whose national debt clock just blew a digital gasket when the total surpassed $10 trillion - has mandated (via the FCC) that all broadcast television signals must transition from analog to digital, thereby "transforming the television viewing experience."

"Look, Dad, it's like a flower!"

"Look, Dad, it's like a flower!"

And heaven knows that's what we really need at this critical juncture in the history of western civilization.

Anyhow, back to Arlington: they are posting information on the forthcoming transmission transformation in municipal buildings and on their website, here. They will also be broadcasting the information via their cable channel.

“February 2009 will be here sooner than we think,” says Marketing Manager Gerald Urbantke. “Now is the time for everyone to get up to speed on DTV: what it means and what needs to be done to get ready for the conversion.”

Here's the lowdown from the folks at the FCC, with information about coupon programs and cable boxes to make the transition easier for those who can't or don't want to just go out and buy a digital-ready TV set.

Analog programming: bend over and kiss your ass goodbye.
