Dallas Stars set their opening-day roster

Stars fans will be happy to know that James Neal and Mark Fistric both made the cut.

— The Dallas Stars made another series of moves on Wednesday and when the dust settled their roster was at 24 players, including the league maximum of 23 active players.

The Stars were also in compliance in the league's $56.7 million salary cap after they were granted permission to use the long-term injury exception for injured defenseman Sergei Zubov, who is recovering from hip surgery.

Here's a recap of the Stars' moves from Wednesday.

*Lost defenseman Doug Janik, who was claimed off waivers by Chicago.

*Reacquired Janik from Chicago later in the day for a conditional seventh round draft pick.

*Were granted the long-term injury exception for Zubov, which gave the Stars some cap relief and allowed them to bring back James Neal and Mark Fistric. Zubov will have to be out a minimum of 10 games or 24 days. Once he returns the Stars will have to come in compliance with the salary cap.

*Assigned forward Chris Conner to Peoria (AHL)

*Assigned forward Francis Wathier to Iowa (AHL)

*Recalled forward James Neal from Oklahoma City (CHL)

*Recalled defenseman Mark Fistric from Oklahoma City (CHL)

All the moves left the Stars with 23 active players: 14 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders.
