State Fair vendor shows a random act of kindness

I enjoyed my visit to the State Fair this year. It was a beautiful day this past Sunday, perfect weather to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of October at Fair Park. When one attends large events it is most common for small things to go overlooked. Except of course, when you spill beer all over yourself, or trip and fall on the midway, but I wouldn’t know of such things so time to move on. ..ahem.

Everyone knows where the cheap beer is at the Fair. The food court becomes the center of the universe as you orbit the Fair grounds. This is also where the stage is set for one of those overlooked moments in time. Tom and Rose of Chili Parlor fame, and long time veterans of State Fair cuisine, were busy selling us 6 ticket beers when it happened.

The young woman had just gotten her chili fries and wandered off toward her party..She tripped , sending the chili goodness careening to the floor. She cussed I’m pretty sure, picked it up and stomped off. With ruined delicacy in hand, she proceeded to the trash can as we watched, feeling her pain. Tom saw her pain as well and with super hero speed he immediately ordered another preparation of chili, watching her cross the food court the entire time. It wasn’t long before he made his way to her presenting a replacement and putting a smile on her face. Then he went right back to work as if it were nothing at all.

Yep, that’s right. In the middle of State Fair mayhem and mania, one small act made this the best State Fair I’ve been to in a long time.

Thanks Jason..You know how the Fair is. It creates a certain manic energy where people aren't really looking out for each other, nor is it requisite behavior. It was just nice to observe, especially there.

The Chili Parlor is our fav booth. And those guys don't do anything related all year... no restaurant, no catering, etc. Just take off whatever they do for work for 3 weeks a year and feed the masses for long ass hours.

Yes, Rich and I loooovvve the Chili Parlor; now even more so! Go Tom! They have been showing us kindness for years now, selling us reasonably priced Shiner Bock (and not as an import beer!) Nice to see the goodness in the wonderful world of the State Fair of Texas!!!!!

The cleanest men's rooms in the entire park are in the Women's Museum, on the 3rd floor. They are ever so nice, clean, and quiet.

I have always loved the Womens Building as a kid, because of the folk food and things people would bring to the event for the judges, I recall it was a state event many years ago, and it is what Dallas is in spirit and soul.... good poor people who have a wealth of exsperience to live it up at the Texas State Fair.... Now that was real Texas and it could still be, but where at the fair..........Alex Troup, born and sometimes raised here.
