Pegasus News week in view: Scary October edition
Between the economy, election mudslinging and the advent of Halloween, it's getting a bit scary around here. Stick with us and we'll guide you through the October maelstrom.
Metro: We've got all the election coverage you could want, including profiles of and interviews with virtually every local candidate being posted in batches every day, thanks to the hard work of our staff and a huge assist from our friends at the League of Women Voters ... Meantime, Capitol Annex has been bringing analysis of State races and takes the Obama campaign to task for raiding the local volunteer pool ... Depending on who you ask, somewhere between 0 and 1 billion people supported and/or protested Sarah Palin's visit ... In Collin County, there's attack advertising against candidates who aren't even running ... Is this a misprint? The FW City Council voted against a Chesapeake permit? ... Looks like cultivation around White Rock lake has hit a new, ahem, high.
Stage: Shawn interviewed Sally Vahle, director of Ghosts ... Check in Friday to see what's opening and closing in local theaters and on the college scene.
Flix: Check in Friday for reviews of Body of Lies, The Express, A Girl Cut in Two and Quarantine (late, due to the lack of a press screening).
Music: The Gobblers Knob reviewed the new New Frontiers disc ... The Blue Shoe Project is bringing legend David "Honeyboy" Edwards to the Meyerson ...
Weekend planner
Artsy: Our downtown showdown series made a stop in Lewisville ... The Dallas Center for the Performing Arts is entering the home stretch ... PegNews user Travis Bush saw a six-ticket act of kindness at The State Fair ...
Best Bites: Fuse got a new lease on life while the old Rick Stein's location is becoming a steakhouse with an Italian twist ... Wolfgang Puck made the mistake of asking for suggestions for the name of his new Reunion Tower restaurant. (Cesar Chavez FTW!) ... Minnie checked out the Denton County Independent Hamburger Company ... Gay List Daily enjoyed brunch at The Capitol Pub ... The Mansion received a nice honor.
Game: We've got video of Uncle Barky's interview with Mark Cuban ... Dallas South says that the annual Prairie View / Grambling meetup at the Cotton Bowl shone brightly. (There's another little game in town this weekend.) ... The Cowboys pulled out an ugly but well-watched squeaker ... The Mavs and the Stars are on the verge of starting their seasons and the Cupcheck assesses our prospects on the ice ... The Dallas Voice explored a double-standard in gay relations among SMU women's basketball players and coaches ... Will UNT get a new stadium? ... Raise a glass of Nestea to the retirement of Dandy Don's SMU jersey.
Schools: DISD layoffs continue to lead the news, and however it works out, it isn't going to be pretty. And while we're at it, let's dumb things down by standardizing GPAs, eh? On the bright side, we have an advertiser who wants to hire displaced DISD-ers ... Best Southwest Citizen tells us that Cedar Hill and Duncanville rejected new school taxes ... At least local colleges are trying to up their game.
Bidness: Your internet connection may be getting more ubiquitous, but no online porn for you on American Airlines ... Our friends at Gay List Daily have expanded to LA ... Did anyone tell the Neiman Marcus folk about the economy before they released their annual Christmas catalog?
