Arlington city fathers and - um - mothers celebrate the opening of their new Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts on Friday night, Oct. 10 with a free under-the-stars concert put on by Brave Combo.
The new facility is located at 100 W. Abram St. (across from City Hall), where a new fountain was just dedicated on Wed. (Oct. 8).
The grand opening celebration begins at 7:30 p.m. with speechifying from officials followed by the traditional ribbon cutting ceremony.

Apparently this is the fifth Levitt Pavilion in the U.S.; the name derives from the New York-based Mortimer Levitt Foundation, which partnered with Friends of the Levitt Pavilion Arlington to fund the construction and ongoing programming of events at the facility. (The Friends raised $1.2 million for the project; the NY org. chipped in $250K towards construction, and another $250K/yr. for programming for the next five years.) Money also came from the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation, which awarded the project a $100K grant. Additionally, a Community Development Block Grant from HUD and park fees also went into the funding mix.
