John Paul II High School Honor Society raises funds for Hurricane Ike Victims

0

The National Honor Society at John Paul II High School showed that they truly believe in their school’s motto, “Seek to Serve”, by pulling together in the wake of Hurricane Ike to help those affected by the disaster. Through a well-organized drive, the NHS raised $1,243 for the American Red Cross which will directly benefit the hurricane victims. The check will be presented to the American Red Cross / Dallas Area Chapter representative during a pep rally on October 24.

The donations were given by the JPII HS students & faculty members who understood the need to help their neighbors in the Houston/Galveston area. As student leaders of the school, the NHS organized the drive and succeeded in raising the funds as well as educating their peers on the collective impact that their contributions have. The drive proved to be successful in raising both awareness and funds. Each student who participated in this effort received a life-lesson about financial stewardship and a reminder of the obligation they share to serve others.

The American Red Cross has operated more than 260 shelters across Texas to provide shelter, meals and emotional support to evacuees throughout the Hurricane Ike relief operation. All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the American people.
