Vinyl-centric Remix Records opens in Deep Ellum district of Dallas
Gotta love the bravery of a new store devoted to a dying industry, located in a neighborhood that's in a deep slump.
Talk about starting at rock bottom: Remix Records, a new record store with a special emphasis on dance music and vinyl records, opened a month ago in Dallas' Deep Ellum district, next to Zini's Pizzeria -- coincidentally in what used to be part of the location of '90s record store Last Beat.
Remix owner Jason Guereca previously had a store in Fort Worth called R-Type Records, which became a favorite haunt of area DJs, especially from Dallas.
"With so many of our customers coming from Dallas, we started thinking that if our core base of supporters was in Dallas, we should go to them instead," he says.
While his special niche is dance/vinyl, he promises other genres, too.
"We're not against top 40 -- I have 40,000 records that are classic rock, hip-hop, but mainly our focus is dance music," he says. "When people hear dance music, they think '90s rave, but it's so much more than it used to be. it's not just pulsating techno.
"We're bringing in over 300 titles a week in all different genres. Even in age of digital downloading, if you fill a niche market, you have a lot of loyal fans."

Awesome. Can't wait to check this place out. Not that I've had any other reason to go down to Deep Ellum recently.
