Neighborhood Services, new restaurant by chef Nick Badovinus, to open on Lovers Lane in Dallas at end of October
DALLAS Neighborhood Services, the new restaurant from dervish chef Nick Badovinus, will open at the end of October, says Nancy N., who quotes Badovinus as saying that his mind is being blown by the team of people with whom he is working; that the crab puffs are "ridiculous"; and that the flatbread is "insane". Usually when you encounter insanity, don't you avoid it? Like if you sit next to someone at a bus terminal who is babbling uncontrollably, don't you move to another area? Then again, there are people who are drawn to crazy, in that sort of "crazy-but-beautiful" sense, like Sharon Stone. If that's the case, then eat the flatbread. Eat mountains of it.

Astute ridiculousness r may be the most vital element in the advancement of any city's dining scene. A chef or restaurateur needs choo-choo-choo-woogie audacity to introduce a public to kicking a$$ tastes, insane-specific cooking techniques and ways of thinking about food that breach comfort zones – particularly in a mind-blowingly swarthy dining environment.
Nick earns my vote as Dallas' most over-the-top chef-owner. He's not to be duplicated, even in print.

A girlfriend and I were on our way for a late night cocktail at the TOT (if you don't know it then don't ask) and peeked in one night last week. The interior is incredibly understated and gorgeous! Nick was there and couldn't have been more gracious to talk to us about his new spot. A few days later, a few of us were back at the TOT and the chef sent down a few samples from the menu - fabulous doesn't even begin to describe the food. Looking forward to having Neighborhood Services in the 'hood...i think this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship!
