Throckmorton Mining Company to reopen in new location

Officials with Caven Enterprises Inc. have announced that Throckmorton Mining Company, a longtime Cedar Springs landmark, will open at its new location, 3903 Cedar Springs Road, on Thursday, Oct. 23.

The club, previously located at 3014 Throckmorton St., was closed down last January and the building was remodeled to hold another longtime Caven club, Sue Ellen’s.

The location on Throckmorton, previously known as the Candy Store and, later, Swamp Trash, was the longest-running bar on the Cedar Springs strip. Although it started out as a small space, Caven remodeled and enlarged the club in August, 2000.

The former Sue Ellen’s location, 3903 Cedar Springs Road, has now been remodeled to accommodate TMC.

Greg Kilhoffer, Caven Enterprises president, said customers have been clamoring for the return of the Mining Company.

“We’ve been hearing from our TMC guests for months now that they wanted TMC to come back. We really appreciate the loyalty that we’ve been hearing, and we’re excited about creating this new version of an old favorite,” Kilhoffer said.

Kilhoffer also said he expects TMC fans to be happy with the new location’s smaller, more intimate space.

“The new location is smaller, like the original Mining Company,” he said. “It’s a new experience, but with a familiar feel. In fact, there are some structural elements that came from the original TMC. I think our TMC loyalists will like it.”

Caven Enterprises is an employee-owned company that operates TMC and four other nightclubs — JR’s Dallas, Sue Ellen’s and Station 4 — in addition to owning and managing several retail properties in Oak Lawn.

Caven Enterprises has been in operation for more than 30 years, and today employs more than 150 team members.
