Concert review: Cricket Taylor and Friends at AllGood Cafe in Dallas (Oct. 17)
Ladies and gentlemen, I have a confession to make to each of you. While I have been a Cricket Taylor fan for a little while now, until tonight I have never had the pleasure of seeing her play on stage. A friend of mine turned me on to her music a few months ago, and I was fortunate (extremely lucky would be more accurate) enough to meet Cricket and hear her rehearse for a show at Lyndah G’s casa. The private rehearsal knocked my socks off, and even though it wasn’t a “show”, it was a performance I’ll never forget. Unfortunately, the last few times she has played in Dallas, I was either out of town, too old, lame and/or not man enough to make it out to a late show.
All that is behind me now! Friday night, AllGood Cafe hosted Cricket Taylor, Donny Ray Ford, and Justin Kipker; this time I didn’t weenie out and miss the show. I’m not sure how anyone could not enjoy themselves at a show like this one at a sweet venue and with great music from three talented musicians. The AllGood Cafe is a great live music spot with friendly staff, great food, and reasonable drink prices. The three artists on stage took turns singing their own songs, a few fun covers, and played to a full cafe for about two hours.
As I expected, Cricket sounded every bit as good as she looked up on stage. She is clearly a musician who is comfortable and capable performing in front of a crowd. Her set list was all of her own original music, including some new tunes. She stopped a few chords into her final song, and with a coy grin announced to the crowd that she felt like playing the Blues. The crowed cheered, and the rockn’ Blues that followed had the whole place fired up. I’ve seen several female artists with big voices that hide in little bodies, but none of them could even come close to the Blues that Miss Cricket played Friday night. Cricket is playing with her new band, The ElectroMagnetics at the City Tavern on October 25th. I would definitely recommend checking out that show!

Holy smokes! I haven't seen her in years...hottest leather pantz in town I tell ya! I have seen her play at the Lakewood Bar & Grill several times and she always puts on a great show..It is great to hear she is still playing.

I really want to catch her show one day. She has some performances recorded on YouTube and she looks like a great entertainer with a great sound. I never quite seem to be able to make it either, for one reason or another. Next time!

There was someone recording at this show. It'll probably end up on YouTube soon. Be on the look out.
ps. Zach I forgot to get the CD from you this weekend.

You have to let me listen to it a little bit more before I give it up. :)
She is playing at the City Tavern with her full band this Sat. I am going to see if I can make it. It just depends on how late the Ian Moore show goes. That show starts at 8, and Crickets at 10, but Ian has 2 openers.

Cricket Taylor looks great after 20 years,....she used to live down in the Exspo Ave area, Now she is almost taking this life and making good music and the best of what it is to become, I wish her more luck , kind of like the same I had passed on to her.. some years back and so hang in there Cricket find your dreams and may laughter heal all of those set backs...Alex Troup, Music Historian.

Cricket Taylor is amazing. Don't pigeonhole her as just a blues vocalist; she can sing anything. Great songwriter and guitar player, too.
