Fort Worth’s Lone Star Film Fest offers up “how to fest” instructions

Lone Star Film Festival - “How to Fest”

Anyone who's launched themselves head-first into a film festival with the intention of seeing as much as they can possibly see - and lived to tell about it - will inform you (from their bed at the sanitarium) that they weren't able to cram in as many screenings and related events as they planned.

Those wishing to de-bug and cleverly organize their participation in Fort Worth's upcoming Lone Star Film Festival might want to attend that organization's "How to Fest" event, set for this Wed. evening (Oct. 22) at the Four Day Weekend Theater.

"Out of all the gin joints in all the towns of North Texas, why'd they have to choose Four Day Weekend?"
"Out of all the gin joints in all the towns of North Texas, why'd they have to choose Four Day Weekend?"

Festival director Dennis Bishop promises to provide attendees with insider info on parties, panels, music, screenings and awards ceremonies lined up for the festival. They'll also hear about the various lounges set up to make folks comfortable between screenings, and of course the advantages of purchasing a festival pass - and how to leverage it.

Perhaps the most useful advice will center on the topic of scheduling and venue navigation, which - if you don't know how long it takes to get from one place to the other, for instance, and how much time to allow for standing in line - could throw a monkey wrench into your game plan.

There will also be information on where to find postings about spur-of-the-moment celebrity appearances and panels. (We're guessing their website, but - hey - might as well enjoy a martini while finding out for sure.)

Speaking of which, appetizers and cash bar service will be available starting at 6 p.m., with the actual presentation kicking off at 6:45. The event is free to LSFS members; $10 for everyone else. (If you end up purchasing a membership on the night of the event, however, you'll get free admission and a 10% discount, to boot.)

Now that I've used the words "gun," "boot" and "spur" in a blurb about a Fort Worth cultural event, my work here is done.
