Dallas area sees mad rush of early voters on Monday
Early voting in the Dallas area on Monday broke records. By the time the polls closed at 5 p.m., more than 33,000 voters in Dallas County cast ballots. It broke the previous record for early voters in 1996, when 21,960 votes were cast.
Dallas County elections administrator Bruce Sherbet noted that voting was particularly heavy in areas that lean Democratic, like DeSoto, Duncanville, and Oak Cliff.

I respectfully ask you to please reconsider the photograph you are using with this story.
While I understand that it is a photo of people lining up to vote in Sierra Leone, Africa, given the current climate of anger and division this election is causing, I would hate for this photo to be interpreted inappropiately or for the photo to open doors for disgusting comments.
Thanks

Why? One corrupt regime being replaced by another hopefully less -- but most likely just as flawed and short sighted one, should look about the same no matter where the line of earnest hopeful people happens to form.
I think we can learn a lot from them actually.

I dont see a big problem with the picture, In fact, I wish we had lines like that in this country, at least people would'nt take the right to vote for granted so much in this country.
That being said: get out and vote already!!

hey GoTeamWarr, appreciate your comment. the use of that photo was ignorance on my part of the circumstances, i just pulled it from the internet late last night because i thought it told the story.
fortunately, Pegasus News staffer Laura Seewoester took a nearly identical (yet much better!) photo at the Obama rally in Dallas earlier this year, so we've swapped it out.

A. Good catch GoTeamWarr -- i responded cynically, but it was an impressive catch. Were you familiar with the image or do you have a search/info scheme you'd share? (Granted I didn't chase the source and it's now gone so it may be "well, duh")
B. Yeah! Good photo Laura... and eerily similar. I'm liking her contributions lately - esp the little tutorials she's throwing out

This is going to be a very Historic and diffrent kind of election, while it is comming in so fast, you have to almost wait and see, but people have got to get out there and vote for...............the man of the next 4 years....there again, it is going to be a party like 1999, 7 years later on.....until then. I wasn't angry in the least, far from it.
And while I personally appreciate the photo swap for one that is more timely to the subject matter, remember, it was just a request.
Lisa, I'm white, I wasn't playing a race card. I made my request out of sheer fatigue. It seems that both parties will jump on anything, like this morning's image, that gives them an excuse to spew some pretty viscious things and frankly, I'm tired of it.

Oh, shoot...I forgot:
Laura's photo is a gorgeous example!
And Jason, I recognized the image from Student Britanica when I was helping my cousin write a paper about Sierra Leone and the RUF party there and the hostage situation that occurred when the peace accord collapsed.

And Lisa, if you can feel better - I assumed GTW's reservation was about the constant threat of bloody revolution that poor little Sierra Leone finds itself year in and year out. While we might bicker like crazy about these things here, it could be taken pretty offensively by - heck anybody worldly - that we'd have the hubris to compare the two. More on the irrepressible tendency here
This whole black/white thing would be solved with Snoopy as president.

Travis Bush, says:
on Nov. 4, voters will be asked to approve a $747 million bond package for Parkland Hospital, unanimously approved by Parkland Hospital’s Board of Managers and the Dallas County Commissioner’s Court. The monies will help fund a new 862-bed adult inpatient hospital (including a Level 1 Trauma Center and Burn Center), outpatient center, office buildings and parking. The hospital will be a public/ private partnership with the philanthropic community committing $150 million of the total cost. The hospital will also contribute $350 million of cash reserves to the project.
