Three North Texas Everest College students receive $2,500 scholarships

... to use at other Corinthian College institutions, that is.

Dubbed the Dream Award, it's a way for administrators at Everest College career training schools to recognize outstanding achievements by students on their various campuses (three of which are here in DFW) who have met and overcome drastic challenges to get where they are today. Which is: enrolled on an Everest College campus.

The award carries with it a $2,500 scholarship to any Corinthian College location nationwide, including the Everest Colleges, which offer diploma and degree programs in healthcare, criminal justice, skilled trades, business, paralegal, and information technology.

Donald Britton (the Arlington Dream Award recipient) rode out Katrina in The Big Easy, moved to Dallas and enrolled at Everest - where he suffered a mild heart attack while in his English Composition class (YIKES! That must be one tough instructor!). Mr. Britton currently serves as an account manager for Healthcare Services Group, overseeing services for four Dallas-Fort Worth nursing homes.

Shandra Denwitty (Dallas) worked two jobs while maintaining a 4.0 GPA at Everest, where she earned an Assoc. Degree in Business. She was class valedictorian and received national recognition as an honors student. She is currently working at XO Communications and Drive Financial as she continues to pursue a bachelor's degree; her dream is to own her own business. Ms. Denwitty is the first person in her family to earn a college degree, and she's justifiably proud of it.

Tammy Cortez (Fort Worth) pursued a course plan which landed her a career as a pharmacy technician, all the while suffering from breathing problems as she waited for a lung transplant. Ms. Cortez maintained straight A's in her coursework while mentoring other students.
