Dallas photographer Andy Hanson died
DALLAS Dallas photographer Andy Hanson passed away earlier this week, reports Paige P.
He worked at the Times Herald from 1960 until it closed in 1991, when he freelanced for the DMN and other publications around town. He was a staple at charity/society events. He was also the nicest person in the world who remembered your name, no matter who you were.
The Dallas Historical Society hosted an exhibition called "Andy Hanson-40 Years Behind the Lens" at the Hall of State at Fair Park during the 2007 State Fair of Texas, while Dallas Summer Musicals hosted an exhibition at The Music Hall at Fair Park that just ended last week.

Today is my 26th wedding anniversary, and I'm thinking of Andy, who as a gift to my husband and me, photographed our wedding in 1982. I saw him this spring, and we reminisced about our Times Herald autograph-collecting days. He was a kind and gentle man, and I will miss running into him at Kalachandji's and the Lakewood post office.

RIP, Andy. I met him just twice - at the Hall of State and then again at Kalachandji's - and found him to be extraordinarily humble, knowledgeable and charming. Dallas was privileged to have such a talent as a citizen, he will be much missed.

My memories of Andy are from the DSM opening nights and cast parties that we attended. He was there to catch the evening on film and I was there to catch the evening on tape for radio. I learned so much about this city from Andy during our "down times" waiting for his next photo or my next interview. I'm so sad that he has died; I'm even more sad that he apparently died alone.

I Knew Andy Hansen for many years, he inspired me to collect coke cola artifacts dating back to the 1960-s and he shot a lot of stuff for the Herald for my folks back when it was the 1960s, Andy was a a very busy guy, had covered a lot of neat decades of Dallas and the living of Dallas, while I hope his archives will end up at a great place..... meanwhile, he shot all of the rich and famous, who would not amounted to much in Dallas if he was not there, and I contributed to his mail art, my thoughts and good wishes are for Andy and the future of his great work, Alex Troup, Art Historian.
