Jubilee Theatre will present the gospel music compilation How I Got Over directed by Ed Smith. Special guests from the Eastern Hills High School Choir, under the direction of Demetrius Ethley, and members of the Mount Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, under the direction of Christopher Haynes, will be featured. This performance marks the beginning of the 2008-2009 Music and Reading Series held on Monday nights.
Once deemed the music of the black church, gospel music has stepped out from behind its walls and embraced the world! Gospel music has crossed nationalities, religious denominations, and musical dissimilarities. It is one of the most powerful music expressions in the American art form. Come and enjoy songs centered on rejoicing, testifying, praying, dancing, and feeling the spirit! Ed Smith directs this talented cast, which includes soloist Sheran Goodspeed Keyton singing "The Lord's Prayer" and choreographer La' Hunter dancing to Roberta Flack's "I Told Jesus."
How I Got Over is on Monday, October 27, 2008 and reservations are strongly recommended. Purchase tickets online or by calling 817-338-4411.
