New product Wednesday, at Dallas-area stores: Snickers Rockin’ Nut Road Limited Edition

9

Snickers Rockin' Nut Road Limited Edition was announced last spring in a press release:

"Snickers Rockin' Nut Road Limited Edition delivers the delicious ice cream flavor of Rocky Road ice cream in a Snickers bar. New Snickers Rockin' Nut Road has a marshmallow-flavored nougat base underneath a mixture of almonds and caramel, all wrapped in dark chocolate. This new line extension will be available nationwide in September 2008."

October 21, 2008:

TG: I found a limited-edition Snickers.

TD: What's up with Snickers? What's new.

TG: "Rockin' Nut Road".

TD: Oh boy. It has marshmallow?

TG: The package says "almonds, caramel, and marshmallow-flavored nougat wrapped in dark chocolate".

TD: That's not a Snickers. Sorry.

TG: Hnh. Is that what "Rocky Road" indicates? Marshmallow?

TD: Yeah. The marshmallows are the rocks, I guess.

TG: I'm eating it. It's not like a Snickers.

TD: See.

Interior of Snickers Rockin' Nut Road Limited Edition shows layer of marshmallow-flavored nougat.

TG: It's like a white Milky Way with nuts on top. "Marshmallow-flavored nougat" -- why not just marshmallow?

TD: I don't know WHAT that is.

TG: Why would you say it's not a Snickers? Why can't Snickers have marshmallow is what I am saying.

TD: A Snickers is very specific: nougat, caramel, peanuts, and chocolate. The whole formula and ratio of those things is why people love it so much. Add marshmallow and it becomes something else.

TG: I dunno. One good thing: The dark chocolate makes it seem less sweet. The marshmallow makes it lighter than a Snickers. More "approachable". Less meaty.

TD: Snickers are definitely dense. I think that's part of the appeal. It's like the chewy steak of candy bars.

TG: Then this is the Snickers for vegetarians.

Rockin' Nut Road ... I think that's the newly proposed name for <a href="http://www.pegasusnews.com/news/2007/apr/05/lady-goes-completely-nuts-downtown-plano/">Avenue K</a>.

You know the answer to that TG. Marshmallow costs money. Marshmallow flavored nougat is probably industrial by product that can be pumped full of HFCS and sold to people who've never eaten real marshmallows before.

billusa, must you be so observant? can no detail escape your laser-like eyes?

i actually photoshopped out the telltale indentation from which the floss emerges so that it would appear to be a wee pedestal. a wee yet brave pedestal procured specifically to display various new product specimens. what a fool i was to think i could pull the wool over your eyes. and oh the horror of having my personal dental hygiene products revealed

(p.s. i also photoshopped out "the spot")

Jason Rice, says:

I personally thought the cross section display, both illustrative and somehow frolicsome in its self-effacing grandeur, was genius.

And yeah, it's obviously tooth floss, but what a great use for an otherwise innocuous thing. The brand recognition from Bill is, however, a tad scary.
