An anonymous tipster sends word of this event coming up Fri. evening (Oct. 24) at The Absolute Space, 2607 Walnut Hill in Dallas:

It's a meeting of the IndieClub (Dallas chapter), the same crew who put on the fun and fabulous Gong Show event this summer.

The agenda includes a talk by Winston Edmondson, who served as one of the judges of the aforementioned Gong Show. Winston will hold forth on the "Passion of the Indie Filmmaker," during which he will discuss the difference between making films as a hobby and having a passion for the process.

Bryan Abrams. Cool.

Bryan Abrams. Cool.

Special guest speaker Bryan Abrams, lead singer of Color Me Badd, will join the discussion to talk about music in indie films. (Color Me Badd contributed songs to several motion picture soundtracks and was - it says here - the "7th largest music act of the 90's." Hm.)

Winston's talk will include references to resources available to the independent filmmaking community, such as the Social Point Network and the RadiusRoom (a new soundstage located at The Absolute Space).

IndieClub members who attend the event with a completed short film in hand (PG-13 or "nicer," please) will be entered into a drawing to have their film or documentary featured on the Social Point Network on Time Warner Cable, reaching 325,000 subscriber households.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m.; for more details call 214-295-2673.

I attended the event last night, and it was excellent - a wonderful networking opportunity for writers, producers, directors and others in the community, as well as critical need-to-know information from the meeting presenters, all taking place in a totally kick-ass venue. Don't miss the next one...

It was an interesting meeting. Bryan Abrams was genuine, and inspirational. The best part of the evening was when the speaker had his ass handed to him by one of the guests. Lovely.
