Coppell City Council takes up matters of month-naming, educational grant authorizations
In order to cover everything on their Tuesday, Oct. 28 evening agenda, the Coppell City Council may end up burning some unbudgeted midnight oil.
After their 5:30 executive session, they'll meet in regular "open to public" mode beginning at 7 p.m. in the designated chambers at City Hall.
This probably looks nothing like the actual Coppell City Council chambers, but we really needed a photo to break up the tedium of all this text.
First up will be the considered approval of a proclamation naming the month of November as "Coppell ISD Educational Foundation Month" - following which a number of items will be up for approval which are designed to enhance the educational experience of Coppell ISD students, including:
* a grant in the amount of $1,131,132 for 88 ESOL teachers and two aides
* a grant in the amount of $126,000 for library materials
* a grant in the amount of $724,614 for 12 literacy teachers
* a grant in the amount of $1,064,326 for 18 Spanish teachers
Additional items on the agenda which are totally unrelated (or at most in some way peripherally related) to education include:
* consideration of an ordinance which would make it unlawful to park, stand or stop a vehicle on both sides of Village Drive within 30 ft. of its intersection with Raintree Circle; both sides of Village Drive within a 30 ft. radius of the intersection with MacArthur Blvd.; the west side of Raintree Circle within 30 ft. of both the north and south side of the intersection with Village Drive; and within 15 ft. of both sides of the fire hydrant near the intersection of Raintree and Village Drive.
* a "roof asset management" contract for city facilities with TREMCO/Weatherproofing Technologies, Inc. to include budgeted expenditures of $118,340. for the year 2008
* a professional services agreement with Halff and Assoc.'s in regard to construction documentation and contract administration of the Coppell Town Center Plaza in the amount of $46,927.55
* amendment to a contract with Northstar Construction Inc. to allow collection of damages from that firm totaling $25,750
* renewal of the service agreement with Motorola, Inc. for the maintenance of city radios and communication network in the amount of $55,890.96
* proposed revision to details of the city ordinance affecting tow truck regulations
* proposed shared law enforcement services between the Dallas County Community College District and the City of Coppell
* consideration of awarding a quote to Caldwell Country Chevrolet for purchase of 14 2009 Chevy Tahoes in the amount of $345,548 (or about $25K/vehicle, if my math skills are holding up)
* renewal of the waste collection and recycling agreement with Waste Management until Oct. 31, 2014
* ordinance providing for establishment and appointments to a Crime Control and Prevention District
* approval of the Coppell 2030 Council Goals
This is hopefully no one's vision of Coppell 2030, but - once again - we really needed a photo here.
(*WHEW!*)
And finally, assuming that all in attendance are still both conscious and coherent, council members will hear the following council, committee and mayoral reports:
* Mayor Stover on Oaktoberfest
* Mayor Stover on the Halloween Fair at the Coppell Aquatics and Recreation Center
* Mayor Stover on the Oct. 21 State Legislative Candidate Forum
* Councilmember Tunnell on the National League of Cities Community and Economic Development Steering Committee Meeting
* Tunnell again on the Carrollton/Farmers Branch ISD/Lewisville ISD committee
* Peters and Hinojosa-Flores on the Coppell ISD committee
* Brancheau and Faught on Coppell Seniors committee
* Peters on the Dallas Regional Mobility Coalition
* Peters again on the DFW Airport Board
* Brancheau on the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI)
* The redoubtable Tunnell on the Metrocrest Hospital Authority
* Hunt on the Metrocrest Medical Foundation
* Hinojosa-Flores on Metrocrest Medical Services
* Hunt once more into the breach on Metrocrest Social Service Center
* Peters reprises to hold forth on the North Texas Council of Governments
* Franklin steps up to talk about NTCOG/Regional Emergency Management
* Franklin holds onto the podium to speak about the North Texas Commission
* and Faught closes out the reporting agenda with an update on Senior Adult Services
Are we done yet? (Yes.)
