After six-organ transplant, McKinney child returning home

Shortly after birth in July 2007, Carter Cates of McKinney was diagnosed with Necrotizing Enterocolitis, a condition in which his intestines were decaying, causing other organs to fail, as well. Doctors performed a rare, six-organ transplant surgery, replacing Carter's large and small intestines, pancreas, liver, stomach, and spleen. In all, Carter has undergone five surgeries and has spent only two weeks of his life outside a hospital. On Thursday morning, he returns home for the first time in 15 months.

This is amazing. It's great to hear stories like this instead of the bleeker ones told everywhere.

"Necrotizing Enterocolitis"

WTF is that? Man, that must be awfully scary for the parents. I hope he lives along and happy life.

Pavel Lishin, says:

I think that's a fancy term for "zombie colon".

But hey, at least he'll have a great "I cheated death!" story when he grows up.
