Dallas iMedia Network announces winner of “Scare Up Some Fun” filmmaking contest

0

Dallas iMedia Network celebrated the first anniversary of its youth channel by hosting a film festival for its youth members on October 25th. Over the past year, iMedia has trained almost 300 kids from ages 9 to 18 in basic portable video production. Some of those kids have gone on to learn non-linear editing on Apple’s Final Cut Pro software and basic studio production.

The theme of the film festival this year was “Scare Up Some Fun,” and the categories included; Most Original, Best Costume/Makeup, Downright Scariest!, Best Fake Trailer, and possibly a first, Most Gratuitous Use of Fake Blood.” For those on the squeamish side, it’s just corn syrup and red food coloring. Those entries turned out un-airable but hilarious. Hopefully, iMedia will archive some of those on their website.

What started out as a local event quickly turned national through Facebook, MySpace and Youtube. The winner of the Most Original category was 14 year old Jacob Logeman from Ohio. Follow this link to view his short film, “The Attic Monster.”

On Halloween Night, Dallas iMedia will replay its favorite submissions on Channel 96 on Time Warner Cable at 7:30 p.m. Following that will be a Monster Madhouse Marathon until 6 a.m. Saturday. Monster Madhouse is a B-Movie show hosted by Karlos Boroff in the style of Mystery Science Theater.
