Fort Worth ISD student to play principal for a day

You can't spell "principal" without "pal."

Maybe Manuel should study the habits of others who have played principal before his big day.

Fort Worth ISD’s Kirkpatrick Middle School will be getting a new principal on Friday, November 7, 2008 – sort of.

During a recent Family Math Night at Kirkpatrick MS, a drawing was held to determine which student would get to be Principal for a Day. 7th grader Manuel Dominguez won and he will “walk the halls” as the “person in charge.”

Meanwhile, current principal Jason Oliver will head to class. As part of the deal, Mr. Oliver has agreed to attend all of Manuel’s classes for the day.

“When I was at TCU, the Chancellor did this type of switch every year,” said Mr. Oliver. “I always loved the idea and I thought it would be a good incentive to get kids to attend Family Math Night.”

The idea was a success since more than 550 people attended Math Night and additional food had to be ordered from the caterer.

Kirkpatrick Middle School began in 1906 as a one room school house. Today, Kirkpatrick is home to 467 “Wildcats” in grades 6, 7 and 8.
