Pegasus News week in view: Unnatural selection edition

We hear tell there's some kind of national election in the offing. Meantime, we've got all the information you need cast your local ballot. If your polling choices aren't scary enough, we've also got a complete guide to Halloween fun. Along the way, be sure to cast a vote for the band you'd like a chance to see for free at the HOB.

This weekend at the Eisemann Center!

Metro: Early voting records are being shattered throughout the area ... As you make irreversible choices at the polls, Shawn Williams brings news of how voting can help you remove ill-considered tattoos ... Fort Worth Councilman Chuck Silcox and former Dallas Councilman James Fantroy both died this week after bouts with cancer ... Neighbors tell us that the Rockwall woman who bought another area woman's foreclosed house and gave it back really is that nice ... Fort Worth has a new police chief ... Kirk Moore sent in a firsthand experience with the inaugural Dallas Sheriff's Citizen Academy.

Stage: Mark Lowry wishes that Theatre Three's The Light in the Piazza would bring production values that match the show and the performances ... Shawn's Spotlight this week is Paul J. Williams, actor in WaterTower's regional premiere of Make Me A Song: The Music of Wievelliam Finn ... North Texas Daily profiles Denton's Sundown Collaborative.

Flix: John previewed the Dallas Video Fest and Pete Wann continued his audio preview of the Lone Star Film Fest ... Check in Friday for reviews of Zack & Miri Make a Porno, Happy-Go-Lucky and RocknRolla ... And sure, it opened last week, but Shawn says that Saw V still has some scares left in it. He's also been reviewing new Bollywood films, like Roadside Romeo that can be seen at FunAsia and Everest Theaters.

Music: No sooner than the buzz started on The O's, Idol Records snatched 'em up ... Cindy Chaffin caught video of Matthew and the Arrogant Sea, Sarah Jaffe and Robert Gomez ... The Dallas Voice caught Janet Jackson's AAC show ... Shea Tellefsen thought Jack's Mannequin should have called it quits before the encore ... Rachel Orr says she and the crowd enjoyed Matt Nathanson.

Artsy: Laura E checked out Dallas artists who sell their goods on Etsy, just in time for you to shop locally for the holidays ... New content partner and urban explorer Floyd Largent of Dallas / Fort Worth and Me visited the Stockyards, Bonnie and Clyde's resting places and the Trinity Greenbelt ... Laura S. has the rundown on November's art openings.

Best Bites: West and Clear's Steve-O wishes he could get back the meals he lost by not eating at Drew's Place until this week ... The Law Reviewers checked out the new downtown Dallas location of Cindi's New York Deli ... Chef Jason Boso is on the mend.

Game: Our pals at Andrew's Stars Page kept us up on the Stars' mixed week -- but at least they are the sixth most valuable NHL franchise. Meanwhile, The Cupcheck likes the rookies, but in a purely platonic way ... Despite a win, fair-weathered fans are already tuning out, according to Uncle Barky.

Schools: Remember all those teachers DISD laid off? Like a week ago? They just hired back 57. And it looks like they may just need one more ... Speaking of substance abuse, 15 UNT student-athletes failed drug tests.

Bidness: $5 gas + lousy economy = record year for DART ... Fort Worth is hit hard by a Bell Helicopter layoff.

• Great music at the HOB with Los Lonely Boys and Alejandro Escovedo in the big room and Grace Potter and her holiday-appropriate Nocturnals in the small.
• Kool Herc, the father of hip-hop performs at Minc (and in Dallas) for the first time ever.
• All the Halloween goodies are right here.

Saturday

• Celebrate the reason for the season at the Latino Cultural Center's Día de Los Muertos Celebration/Altares Opening.
• There's a computer gaming symposium at El Centro that at least one of our users is very excited about.
• There's an eclectic (and free) lineup of bands at Bill's Records, featuring our pal Ken Turetzky.
• The last outing for the Main Street Live Fest features Mae, Black Tie Dynasty, The New Frontiers, Homer Hiccolm, Blowing Trees and the Burning Hotels.
• Cheech and Chong light up the Majestic.
• Vic Chesnutt at Dada should be intimately awesome. (Also in Denton Sunday.)
• Alas, P.P.T., we knew ye well.

Sunday, Sunday, SUNDAY

• Finish off the ghoulish weekend at Opening Bell Mosaic's Dia de los Muertos Festival -- great local lineup benefiting wounded veterans.
