From Tues., Sept. 2 through Sat., Sept. 6, Texas Christian University is celebrating the opening of the new Brown-Lupton University Union by organizing a variety of events and activities, including:

* a ribbon cutting and balloon release (11 a.m. on Tues., Sept. 2)

* viewing of "The Real Story of Charlie Wilson" (a sold out ticketed event, scheduled for Tues., Sept. 2 at 7 p.m.)

* Jim Wright Symposium, featuring former U.S. Congressman Charlie Wilson (a sold out ticketed event, scheduled for Wed., Sept. 3 at noon)

* Grand opening of Market Square (the 18,000-square-foot dining facility inside the new Union building), the Corner Store (the Union-housed convenience store) and the 1873 Cafe & Sports Grill (a late night eatery under the same roof): Thurs., Sept. 4. There will also be a first-ever film screening at the Kinomondo 350-seat theater housed in the new Union building.

* Public tours of the new Union facility will be offered on Sat., Sept. 6 from 11 a.m. 'til 6 p.m.

Says Dr. Don Mills, vice chancellor for student affairs: "“The new Campus Commons, consisting of the Brown-Lupton University Union, four new residence halls, and a grand, open greenscape, will provide a new intersection for student learning and interaction. We anticipate that this new Union will become the core center of activity for campus.”

Probably a good bet, given the movie theater, dining hall and convenience store - not to mention the fact that the staffs of the Student Government Assn., Student Affairs and Student Organizations will all be located there.
