Denton’s Wilson Elementary named TBEC Honor Roll school
DENTON Woodrow Wilson Elementary has been named one of the top elementary schools in the state by the Texas Business and Education Coalition, which placed the school on its prestigious Honor Roll School list for 2008.
Of the more than 8,000 Texas public schools, less than four percent were selected and will be honored at a reception on Nov. 10 in San Antonio.
The TBEC identifies Honor Roll schools by analyzing three years of performance data for every public school in Texas. A TBEC Honor Roll school must have a high percentage of students meeting state standards on every TAKS test for three consecutive years.
The TBEC Honor Roll schools also have the highest percentage of students performing at the state’s most rigorous standard commended in every subject. The selection criteria also considers the school’s demographics, number of subjects tested and grade levels. Wilson, a Title 1 school, was also named an “Exemplary” school by the Texas Education Agency in August.
“It is a great honor to be selected as a TBEC Honor Roll school because our school has achieved academic excellence year in and year out, displaying the energy, innovation, determination and teamwork that motivates, challenges and prepares students for the future,” said Audrey Staniszewski, principal at Wilson Elementary.
