Metro Grill at US 75 and Knox in Dallas closes; Chips Hamburgers nearby to follow suit

Metro Grill, before it was closed.

Metro Grill, before it was closed.

Metro Grill, a rather ill-fated restaurant at the corner of Knox and US 75, is closed, reports Nancy N., and Chip's Hamburgers isn't far behind.

Metro Grill's free wi-fi made it near-and-dear to the hearts of the Pegasus News editorial staff who conducted staff meetings there during the summer of '07. But the restaurant's odd design, with an outdoor space that separated its bar from its dining room, was a buzzkill for diners who like to see and be seen, which is pretty much anyone who eats in the Knox-Henderson district.

Meanwhile, Chip's, which has been at the corner of Cole and Armstrong for 10 years, is leaving because the rent went up; they'll be out within a month or two. But the Lovers Lane location will stay open.

Scott Doyle, says:

Only went to Metro once, wasn't terribly impressed. So, guess I'm not terribly surprised! =p

Sucks they closed, I guess. Doyle supports the free flowing of boozahol even if your patrons have a tendency to pop their collars.

Scott Miller, says:

I went to Chips on Cole recently after not having been there in a decade or so. The burgers were nothing like what I remember from back when I lived in the neighborhood and was a regular.

Back then they were big, messy and probably the best in town. What I got recently was a slightly dry, nondescript run of the mill cheeseburger.

Terribly disappointing.

I've been going to Chip's on Cole for almost 8 years (I went weekly for the 5 years that I lived a few doors down). I'll be very sad to see it go. Their food was consistently good, and their atmosphere was/is fantastic. Also, I enjoyed seeing the same folks behind the counter all of these years. They were a great service staff that gave their customers top-notch service for a hamburger joint. I hope that they're all able to find new jobs quickly.
