UTD’s Centraltrak artists residence hosts dystopian film screenings
The folks at the University of Texas at Dallas' Centraltrak arts facility, located just a stone's throw from Fair Park at 800 Exposition Ave., are hosting a pair of grim futurist cinematic visions in the next couple of weeks.

Soylent Green ('73), based on the Harry Harrison novel and starring the late great Charlton Heston, will screen on Thurs., Sept. 4; while - on Thurs., Sept. 11 - we have an opportunity to reconnect with the wild actioner side of John Carpenter via his Escape from New York ('81), starring Kurt Russell as anti-hero Snake Plissken (surely one of the best and most evocative character names of modern cinematic history. I mean, come on: PLISSSSS-ken!).
Admission to both films is free, and both shows start at 7 p.m.
The thought behind screening these two films (in relation to the artistic mission of Centraltrak) involves a rumination surrounding the accuracy of the vision expressed in the films. Are they still relevant to modern audiences? Is there a reflection of the events depicted in the films observable in today's world?
