Dallas rowing group puts on summer camp for teenage girls

Members from Girls Incorporated of Metropolitan Dallas prepare to put into motion their rowing camp instructions on White Rock Lake.

This summer, White Rock Boathouse, Inc. along with Girls Incorporated of Metropolitan Dallas formed a new partnership. Both teamed together for first time participants, girls ages 14-16 to offer a free one-week rowing camp.

During the month of August at White Rock Lake, 10 members from Girls Inc. participated in a three hour course with Ryan White, Program Director and Head coach of White Rock Boathouse, Inc. and Ginger Twichell, Instructor and Board Member of the White Rock Boathouse, Inc.

Rowing is a team sport that teaches the value of commitment to self and others. Girls had the chance to take part in a structured rowing program while having fun and developing a new skill. Participants learned techniques, mechanics of strokes, speed, strength and endurance.

The White Rock Boathouse, Inc. is a non-profit corporation with a mission of introducing recreational rowing to Dallas. Headquarters is the beautiful 1930s era boathouse at T & P Hill at White Rock Lake in the heart of Dallas, Texas. Their focus is on open water rowing as a recreational and endurance sport.
