DISD ethics recommendations would require trustees disclose business ties

Houston's not a model for much, so it should take what accolades it can.
Houston's not a model for much, so it should take what accolades it can.

After Dallas ISD could not recently produce disclosure statements, i.e. paperwork stating what businesses school board trustees are connected to, the district put together an ethics committee to review the issue. The committee now recommends that all trustees disclose their business ties and that trustees are not allowed to vote on DISD contracts that involve their company. Going further, if it's revealed that a trustee did not disclose a business relationship, the vendor would be banned from working with the district for a year.

While the panel thinks the reforms are enough, claiming them to be stricter than most districts, others, such as Trustee Carla Ranger, want to adopt a system similar to Houston ISD. Houston simply does not allow contracts with businesses that have ties to its trustees.

For a year? no, no, no. that’s a class example of lining your pocket potential. With DISD's track record... Shouldn't they be a little more strict in that area? What a waste of tax payers money.

I bet there were a few Trustees who went out and bought Depends for themselves upon this announcement.
