In their final game of the season at home, the Grand Prairie AirHogs combined for three homeruns in a 6-3 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries on Tuesday afternoon. They have evened the league championship series at 1-1 with the rest of the postseason set to take place in Sioux Falls, SD.
The AirHogs took the early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. David Espinosa reached on a walk to get things started. He would move to second and advance to third on a past ball. Billy Munoz came to the plate and hit a high pop that fell between Beau Torbert and Tim Hutting into shallow left for the RBI.
Mike Conroy parked a solo shot to right field in the bottom of the second, extending the AirHogs lead to 2-0.
Sioux Falls cut their deficit to 2-1 in the top of the sixth. With the bases loaded, Vinnie DeChristofaro struck out Patrick Reilly with two outs, but it got past Tucker and allowed Grant Richardson to score from third base.
JB Tucker led off the bottom of the seventh with a bunt single. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt for Conroy. Aaron Garza reached on a single to put two aboard with one away. Noel Trevino came up and blasted a three-run homer to right field, giving Grand Prairie the 5-1 advantage.
Derek Nicholson hammered a solo shot to right field in the bottom of the eighth, giving Grand Prairie the 6-2 lead.
The Canaries added a run in the eighth and the ninth inning to cut their final deficit to 6-3.
AJ Jenkins (1-0) made his first appearance for Grand Prairie and earned the victory as a starter. He threw five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits with two walks and one strikeout.
Ryan Ford (1-1) started for Sioux Falls and got the loss. He went 6.1 innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits with three walks and six strikeouts.
