Theater Spotlight of the Week: Pam Myers-Morgan
Interview with Pam Myers-Morgan, Director of American Cassandra
Pam Myers-Morgan is a founder of Echo Theatre, the only theater company in the Southwest dedicated to producing plays written by women. And this weekend, the company is opening a political play titled American Cassandra: Déjà vu, which is the first time in a few years since the company has "gone political."
We talk about the founding of the theater company and how it has survived and grown over the last 11ish years. She talks about the first response to Echo and how it has earned its place in the DFW community.
She then explains why American Cassandra became part of this season and why it was time for them to present another political play. Since politics is such a provoking topic, I ask how audiences have responded in the past and if patrons have complained.

She discusses how this piece was generated by Rhonda Blair and what the title means. Since this is a joint production with SMU, she talks about the 3 college girls starring in the show, and what unique perspectives they bring to the piece. She also tells what she wants the audience to walk away with thinking or discussing.
We end the interview by talking about the nature of the piece, its comedy, its various scenes, and how you will see a woman wearing a burqa performing a ventriloquist act.
American Cassandra runs through September 27. All Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays are pay-what-you-can and Fridays and Saturdays are $20. Purchase tickets online or by calling 214-904-0500.
