Irving City Council brouhaha over apartment closing leads to early adjournment
At Thursday's (Sept. 4) meeting of the Irving City Council, raw sewage hit the fan as Hispanic activist Carlos Quintanilla prepared to take the podium during the citizen's forum part of the meeting.
That's because - in an apparent preemptive measure - Mayor Herbert Gears adjourned the meeting before Mr. Quintanilla could speak.
Mr. Quintanilla, who was accompanied by a group of about 40 protesters, was there to talk about the recent abrupt closing (due to dangerous and unsanitary conditions, say city inspectors) of the Vista Del Lago apartments, which displaced numerous families.
Now Qunitanilla is threatening to take his protest to the home of City Manager Tommy Gonzalez.
