Prosecution of Uptown Dallas burglars could be hampered by warrant oopsy-daisy
The burglars struck a number of homes in Uptown Dallas a few months ago, often hanging out and eating the homeowners' food while stealing their stuff. Eating stuff and hanging out tends to leave quite a bit of DNA lying around, which could be used to determine guilt. However, a mistake involving the warrant to obtain DNA, which included information from an unrelated sexual assault case, throws a wrench in the process.
While Lt. Vernon Hale doesn't believe the mistake will damage the case against the burglars, there are several instances in which that exact outcome has occurred. The detective who wrote the warrant is not allowed to work on new cases until he's been better trained.
