Natural Grocers started out as a vitamin vendor called Vitamin Cottage which sold vitamins.

Natural Grocers, a Colorado-based natural/organic food retail chain with 28 branches, opened its first store in the Dallas area on Friday in Richardson, at the northwest corner of Coit and Campbell Road, right across from a Sprouts Farmers Market, tongue cluck tongue cluck. One wonders how Andrew feels about this.

The chain started out as a vitamin vendor called Vitamin Cottage before expanding into an operation serving people with dietary needs such as gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, and kosher. The store in Richardson has 14,000 square feet; your typical grocery store is more like 50,000 feet. The chain encourages shoppers to bring their own bags and does not stock paper or plastic bags except in produce; they'll provide boxes if you don't bring your own bags.

They plan to open more stores in the Dallas area, with potential locations being eyed in Dallas on Greenville Avenue (which is smart given the imminent evacuation of Whole Foods, a departure also being addressed by Colorado-based Sunflowers Farmers Market), Flower Mound, Plano, and Southlake.
