A clerk at Albertsons grocery store on Alsbury Boulevard was given a warning after she sold alcohol to a minor during a weekend alcohol sting operation in Burleson.

Agents with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC), a Burleson police detective, and a Burleson police officer coordinated the sting which targeted 12 stores. Ten of the stores were selected at random. Two were targeted due to open complaints to the TABC. The 12 stores are licensed in the City for off-site consumption.

A minor (younger than 21) was sent into each business on Sunday, Sept. 7, to purchase alcohol. The minor presented a driver's license that identified him as a minor by showing his date of birth.

In Albertsons, the minor went through the self checkout aisle and completed the sale with the assistance of a 23-year-old female clerk. No criminal case will be filed against that clerk because the minor forgot to take the receipt for the sale of the alcohol. The TABC will file an administrative case against the store.

Clerks at the other 11 stores did not sell alcohol to the minor.

The stores included Texas Best Smokehouse on I-35W, Haley's One Stop (Valero) on I-35W, Elk Food Mart on Renfro Street, Chevron on Burleson Boulevard, City Market on Renfro Street, Burleson Stop (Glad Mart) on Wilshire Boulevard, Exxon Tiger Farm on Wilshire Boulevard, Texaco on Alsbury Boulevard, K-Jim's on Alsbury Boulevard, RaceTrac on Alsbury Boulevard, and Robert's Cut Rate on Burleson Boulevard.

I wonder if the minors sent in as part of the sting operation were doing it as part of a plea bargain.

I have a friend whose teenager did this for the police, they started out buying cigarettes. As the teen got older, they bought alcohol. It is in hopes to help stop teenagers from ruining not only their own lives, but the lives of others. The store owners that get caught selling to minors can get huge fines and even losing their license as deterrents. The teenager did it because they wanted to. There was no payment or plea bargain of any sort.
