Gay List Daily’s must-do events: September 11-16

Hmm, it’s become evident that we are drawn to three types of events. Either something with booze, something with over-the-top visuals and singing divas or something with cute boys. And this week is no exception. We’ve rounded up ways for you to get drunk, sing show tunes and hit on unassuming gym bunnies. Or as we like to think of it, another fitting end to a long workweek. You Had Me At Merlot: 22nd Annual GrapeFest

Today through Sunday, September 14

It’s like this event was created especially for that creepy wino with the foot fetish from the Craig’s List ads. We hear. Really, where else are you going to find people stomping grapes until their toe-jam turns purple while sucking down a glass of Shiraz? But even if you’re not into feet (blech), there’s plenty of entertainment at this celebration of all things grapey including live music, tastings and foodie festivities.

Who’s Your DADA?: Fall Gallery Walk

Starts Saturday, September 13, 10:00 a.m.

Art, they say, is subjective. So why not subject yourself to strolling through more than 30 galleries participating in the Dallas Art Dealers Association (DADA) Fall Gallery Walk. Or, dust off that hideous “Rotting Fruit In Bowl” oil painting you inherited from Aunt Ethel and see how much it’s worth during the art appraisal. C’mon big bucks, no whammies!

Long On Comedy: Martin Short

Okay, okay, so Tyler is a bit of a drive for Dallas folk. But you keep saying you want to get away for the weekend. So why not indulge your need for a road trip by making it a destination vacay to see funny man Martin Short? Better yet, make it a theme getaway, gel your hair up like Ed Grimley and play the triangle the whole drive there. Because nothing makes long car rides better than the “ting” of a triangle for hours on end.

Because You Can, Can, Can: Moulin Rouge

Monday, September 15, 7:30 p.m.

Our love of this movie is so strong, it got us upgraded to a platinum gay card. We’ve subjected friends and loved ones to hours and hours of sing-a-longs and dramatic reenactments, and now there’s an even bigger audience ready to see our talent. The Dallas Opera presents this night of a thousand courtesans at the newly pimped Inwood Theatre which has swapped out the traditional seating for couches, love seats, ottomans and, um, Lovesacs. (Despite the porn-like name, it’s actually just a beanbag.)

Jock Talk: Shirts & Skins

On Monday, September 15, LOGO premieres the HOT, based-on-true-life series Shirts & Skins that follows the lives of gay ballers on and off the court. On Tuesday, JR’s keeps the love flowing for fans of physical fitness with a Shirts & Skins-themed night including DVD giveaways. So grab your balls (basketballs, that is) and get ready to make up for all those years of missed locker room moments.
