Air National Guard wing out of Fort Worth helps evacuate elderly from hurricane path
"Load 'em up - move 'em out" might have well been the mantra for C-130 air crews out of Fort Worth Naval Air Station, as they were given their marching orders on Thursday morning (Sept. 11): evacuate the aged and infirm (i.e., those who can't get out under their own power) from Beaumont, in the path of approaching Hurricane Ike, and drop them off (gently, of course) in Bryan/College Station.
While the plan involves relocating up to 600 people, chances are the storm will shut down the flights before everyone on the list can be flown out.
