Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD updates progress on $300 million new/remodeled schools project

Students are fortunate to have new and remodeled schools.

As part of the $300.1 million 2003 bond referendum for Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, the following projects are either in progress or have been completed.

La Villita Elementary School is located in northern Irving. In conjunction with a Tax Increment Finance Zone (TIF), funds were deposited into a dedicated account to provide for this new school. The district previously purchased the site, using TIF funds. The 80,000 square foot building is unique with exposed wood and Mediterranean styling.

Nancy Strickland Intermediate School is a beautiful new building located on Fyke Road in Farmers Branch.

The primary purpose of this building was to relieve overcrowding at McLaughlin Elementary School, located across the street. This new school split the enrollment in half and houses third through fifth grade students.

Blalack Middle School is a $9.5 million project that will upgrade several areas of the building. Updates include a new roof, renovated fine arts areas, a new football field including lights, concession stands and storage space. Construction is expected to be complete in the summer of 2009.

Farmers Branch Elementary and McCoy Elementary are both in the early stages of the planning process. Both campuses will receive classroom additions with modest upgrades and more space for student growth.

DeWitt Perry Middle School is an exciting new project. Expect to see expansions in the fine arts areas with a new band hall and a new classroom wing, eliminating portable buildings.
