Texas Gov. Rick Perry suspends hotel/motel tax for Hurricane Ike evacuees
"We'll leave the light on for ya."
To make things easier financially on those fleeing the Texas gulf coast in anticipation of Hurricane Ike, Texas Governor Rick Perry has announced he's temporarily suspending the collection of state and local taxes imposed on hotel and motel patrons.
Looks like the state tax rate for such room rentals is six percent, and the local tariff varies by municipality.
Perry stated that his fee suspension measure has been backdated to room rentals beginning on Sept. 8.

Darn! A windfall for arts funding quashed in an otherwise really bad year. Ah well. I like the gesture a lot anyway. So with 6% you can upgrade to the "Continental Breakfast".
