Carrollton Mayor Ron Branson visits Korea
CARROLLTON Carrollton Mayor Ron Branson, along with Deputy Mayor Pro-tem John Mahalik and city economic development staff visited Korea this past week. The mission, facilitated by Carrollton Ambassador to Korea Chan Pak, was two fold, establish a relationship with a Korean city and work with Korean companies seeking trade and investment opportunities.
Meetings with Guri, a Seoul suburb, were held to establish a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the two cities. The MOU should be ready for discussion within the next 60 days. A visit to Yangju was also conducted to explore educational opportunities that could be developed in the future. In addition, meetings were held with the executive staff of Sung Kyun Kwan University to explore the university’s expansion plans in the United States.
Business meetings were held with Doosan Heavy Industries, Samsung, Kyung Dong Pharmaceutical Company, Ever Construction Corporation, Feelux Lighting and Kumsung Rubber Roller Company. Discussions included strategies on distribution of Korean products in the Unites States as well as transit-oriented development opportunities in Carrollton.
“I was very impressed with Korea and the level of development that occurred in the past few years," Mayor Branson stated. "I look forward to a strong relationship with both the companies of Korea and the communities we have visited.
"I would also like to thank Ambassador Pak for doing an outstanding job representing Carrollton.”
