Annual softball game to benefit Flower Mound Police and Fire Departments on September 20
FLOWER MOUND The fifth annual Battle for the Diamond softball game is scheduled for Saturday, September 20. Pregame activities begin at 5:00 p.m. and the first pitch is at 6:00 p.m. This game between the Flower Mound Police Department and the Flower Mound Fire Department will take place at Gerault Park located at 1000 Gerault Road in Flower Mound.
The first pitch will be thrown out by Officer Kevin Schmidt of the Flower Mound Police Department. Officer Schmidt is a nine-year veteran of the police department who received near fatal injuries while on traffic patrol July 25, 2007 when his motorcycle collided with a car.
Retired major league pitcher John Wetteland (Rangers 1997-2000, NY Yankees 1995-1996, MVP 1996 World Series with 4 saves, Montreal 1992-1994, LA Dodgers 1989-1991) will be available to sign autographs and visit with fans.
Displays of fire and police equipment will be set up in the parking lot for the fans and gate prizes will be awarded between innings. Tickets to the game are $5.00 for ages 6 and over (5 and under are free). For purchase information, go online. Tickets will also available at the gate on game day. Concessions will be available at the park as well.
This community event is sponsored by the Flower Mound Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association along with area businesses. Proceeds will benefit the Flower Mound police and fire departments.
